On behalf of King International Group, I was asked to organize a panel of speakers on U.S. tax law for a group of visiting Chinese lawyers. (King International Group hosts many Chinese trade and professional delegations). Bob Toms called and asked if I could put together a panel.
The event happened on Monday, 18 April 2005, and was held at KPMG’s downtown Los Angeles offices. Thanks to Erin Collins, a former IRS attorney and current Director of Tax Controversies – Pacific Region, KPMG LLP, Los Angeles, California, for speaking and arranging the facilities and snacks. (They turn out nice cookies!)
Also thanks to Ed Robbins, who spoke and brought his unique perspective as former Chief of the Tax Division of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Southern California.
And thanks to Sou Ho, a KPMG partner in their China Practice Group (based in Mountain View, CA), for speaking to the group (and not in English!) and providing the unique perspective of someone familiar with the tax systems in both countries.
Final thanks go to Chuck Rettig, who volunteered his compadre, Ed, and thus gave me the first link in the chain to get everything together.
