Jell-O Shot Mailing List Purged

500 People–Goodbye

I purged about 500 names off the Jell-O Shots email list last night: people who had not opened an email from me in a while — namely, in the last 14 editions they had opened the email once or never.

I don’t want to annoy anyone with emails they do not want. If they had not looked at the last 14 emails, they must not be interested. Hence the purge.

Why I Am Afraid to Unsubscribe

I am on a bunch of email lists from people I know and like. They arbitrarily added me to their mailing lists and I get their newsletters.... continue reading

San Francisco – tonight – 345 Stockton

Last chance. We are having a meetup tonight December 5, 2013) in the OneUp Lounge in the Grand Hyatt at 345 Stockton in San Francisco. Let’s say 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm-ish.

It will be a bunch of people who are speaking at or attending the CalCPA International Tax Conference on December 6, 2013 — not coincidentally to be held in the self-same Grand Hyatt.

Come by and hang out. Text me if you like at 626-nine-nine-nine-four thousand. I’m in SF right now.

Heh. See how I learned stuff from Craigslist for how to disguise a phone number from scraper bots?... continue reading

Congratulations Debra. 97. Wow.

Debra Rudd has just finished passing the fourth (and final) exam in the CPA exam cycle. Audit.

She passed with a score of 97. Ninety. Seven.

Debra passed all four exams in a year, passing on the first try.

Seriously, congratulations. This is fabulous.

To those of you who want to be accountants, maybe you can start (as Debra did) as a Philosophy major at Columbia. It wouldn’t hurt, anyway.

97. That’s nuts.... continue reading

Be unreasonable in San Mateo

Noon. I’m at the hotel after an abortive Supershuttle ride from the airport. Without debate I rig up for running. Five kilometers. I head for the water. The San Francisco Bay is close. There is a trail along the shoreline.

At first my aim is 5k in an out and back loop. But north a bit I see a hill with a dirt road up. Seal Point. I will run to the hill. I get there. Only 2 miles in. I decide to do my 5k out. Nonstop. I keep running along the shoreline.

And the quitting conversation starts in my head.... continue reading
